Slide Rock State Park

Slide Rock State Park in Sedona, AZ is a unique and must visit attraction for all outdoor enthusiasts. Located in beautiful Oak Creek Canyon, Slide Rock State Park, originally known as the Pendley Homestead, is a beautiful historic family farm and apple orchard and is one of the few remaining homesteads left in the canyon. The park has been featured in several Hollywood movies including: “Broken Arrow”, “Gun Fury”, “Drum Beat”, and “Angel and the Badman.”

Slide Rock State Park derives its name from the famous “slide Rock,” the natural rock creek bed that provides a slick surface allowing visitors to “slide” down the creek chute just like on a commercial waterslide.

In addition to the natural rock waterslide, Slide Rock State Park offers a wide variety of activities and enjoyment for all including hiking, fishing, sightseeing, picnic areas, and plenty of wildlife viewing. Visitors are also welcome to wade in the water and sun along the creek bed and surrounding cliffs.

Our Friend Julie Dobson over at EscapingtheMidwest.com has put together another terrific and informative article on what activities visitors can expect when they visit Slide Rock State Park; From rock climbing to cliff jumping into the crisp cool creek. Despite the frigid temperature of the waters (They visited the park in March,) her adventurous family loved the waterslide, especially her overeager daughter.

As always, Julie takes the time to remind travelers of the risks associated with outdoor adventures and offers up some wonderful tips on how you and your traveling companions can enjoy the Slide Rock State Park as much as she and her family did.
