Absolutely a grace. Mitch Stevens has a passion for nature, conservation, and interaction with Arizona’s lands that is rarely equaled. He interprets the natural world, and especially geology, with charisma and charm that make his outings extremely popular in the Southwest. He leads outings safely, thoughtfully, and with amazing knowledge and planning."
Day One
Hiking in Arizona
You will start your epic tour on a hike along the Wild Burro loop in the beautiful and rugged Tortalita Mountains north of Tucson. Some hikes will include yoga to help you relax and embrace the surrounding nature in a unique way.
For dinner, you will visit the famous authentic Mexican restaurant of Mi Nidito, which has been frequented by United States presidents. At night, relax in your luxurious room at Lowes Ventana Resort.
Day Two
Mt. Lemmon
Start your second day off with an exhilarating short hike and journey to the top of Mt. Lemmon for an educational tour of this fascinating sky island mountain range. Then lunch and breathtaking views at the Iron Door Restaurant on the mountaintop.
These mountain “islands” are forested ranges separated by vast expanses of desert and are among the most diverse ecosystems in the world. From saguaros in Arizona’s rugged Sonoran Desert to ponderosa pines at the higher elevations, you will be dazzled by the ever-changing palate of landscapes. Arizona’s sky island mountains range from 6,000–10,000 feet in elevation; emerging from a sea of desert and grasslands which provide an oasis for a wide variety of flora and fauna.
Day Three
Nature Photography Workshop
Guided canyon hike and our exclusive Nature Photography Workshop at spectacular Salome Jug. This canyon features swims, hikes and climbs through a magnificent water filled abyss, unlike anywhere else in the world. Here you’ll learn how to capture images of the pink granite gorge with camera in hand.
On this tour, you’re sure to capture pictures that will last you a lifetime.
The fourth day will include adventure around the historic old west town of Globe. This might be an exciting rafting tour down the spectacular Salt River or a hike to ancient ruins of the Salado people in the Sierra Ancha Mountains.
In the evening, you will return to spend a second night in your comfortable accommodations in Globe.
Your fifth day will include a Photography Workshop and a hike through the springtime beauty of Aravaipa Canyon. Get your cameras ready for a canyoneering experience not to be missed. This one day exclusive Photography Workshop will take place in one of the most beautiful and seldom photographed canyons in Arizona. We will explore the west end of the canyon giving you stunning views of the canyons and wildflowers.
In the evening we will drive to El Rancho Robles, a historic Arizona guest ranch, where we’ll spend the night. Here you will have an extraordinary opportunity to enjoy an authentic Wild West experience.
Spend your sixth day in Redfield Canyon in the remote and seldom traveled Galiuro Mountains. Here you will explore an Indian cave, stone cabin, mysterious pictographs, and a stunning cliff house etched into the red rocks. Get your camera ready because you’ll want to capture many of these scenes on film.
You will then return to Tucson for the night.
