Day One

Scottsdale and Lake Pleasant

After a sumptuous breakfast at The Saguaro, we’ll visit the world famous Taliesen West and enjoy a guided tour. Taliesen West is a Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece. He built his personal winte rhome, studio and architectural campus in 1937. During our tour, we’ll visit some of is wonderfully designed rooms and observe how the indoor spaces were integrated into the desert outdoor spaces. His living room or “garden room,” is particularly impressive.

Next stop on the tour is the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. This museum specializes in contemporary art, architecture and design. The building itself is minimalist in design and has five galleries featuring changing exhibitions and a growing permanent collection.

Located in Old Town is Arcadia Farms, a perfect lunch spot. After lunch, we’ll take a scenic 45-minute drive to beautiful Lake Pleasant.

In addition to kayaking, sailing and paddleboarding, the lake offers excellent hiking. We’ll enjoy the scenic beauty of Lake Pleasant from the top of Yavapai Point, by hiking the Yavapai Point Trail.

After the hike, we’ll enjoy the lake’s pristine waters by jumping into our kayaks. We’ll explore fascinating coves and glide by the lake’s shoreline. We’ll keep an eye out for wild burros, bobcats and nesting bald eagles which call Lake Pleasant home.

We’ll return to Scottsdale for a delicious dinner and our comfortable accommodations for the night.

Day Two

Heard Museum

We’ll visit the famous Heard Museum in Phoenix. Featuring Native American Art, the museum houses Native American paintings, jewelry, rugs, baskets and pottery. In addition, a great bookstore, the upscale Berlin Gallery, a cafe’ and restaurant round out its offerings.

After exploring Cave Creek, an old gold mining town and stopping point for the U.S. cavalry in the 1870’s, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at The Horny Toad in Cave Creek. After lunch we’ll sojourn back to Scottsdale, completing an exciting and enjoyable long weekend in one of the beautiful and fascinating areas of the Southwest!
