Reasons to Visit Moab
As our readers know, we often spend a lot of time writing about the splendor and majesty we outdoor enthusiasts find when visiting and hiking the park lands of Utah. Photographer Ed Doran waxed poetic about some of the reasons to visit Moab. “Magical rock formations, geologic wonders full of color, texture, and spellbinding beauty inhabit the area. One becomes acutely aware of how small and insignificant we are against the backdrop and solitude of the area. Endless slot canyons and crevices beckon you, each with its own unique perspective and hidden secrets” In The Best 7 Reasons to Visit Moab outdoor writer Julie Dobson of Escaping the Midwest celebrates the beauty of the desert landscapes surrounding Moab.
Moab and vicinity are filled with spectacular places. One can whitewater raft, mountain bike, hike and take in Native American rock art and ruins. It is the self-proclaimed adventure capital of the West, and it is not difficult to see why. Moab’s awesome canyon landscapes inspire nothing short of awe. If you are fond of trekking down narrow gorges, exploring hidden treasures, and admiring the splendor of some of the most amazing national parks in the world, you’ll enjoy Julie’s excellent post.
Moab is one of Julie’s favorite destinations. “This place is the ultimate playground for adults that crave adventure.” She describes the overwhelming abundance of beauty in its stark setting, the Colorado River, the wide-open sky, the snow-capped La Sal Mountains and of course Utah’s iconic red rock formations and arches. Julie likens the wonders of southeastern Utah to a “rainbow of color,” an apt description.
Julie goes into details about Arches National Park, one of the most beautiful national parks in the system. Many people hike the 5-mile round trip trek to Delicate Arch however few ventures into the Fiery Furnace, an undiscovered treasure. Julie’s excellent photographs also encapsulate other areas of the park such as Devil’s Garden, Balanced Rock and the “Windows.”
Julie covers Canyonlands National Park, little known petroglyph and dinosaur track sites, off-road vehicle routes, mountain biking destinations and white-water rafting. To get the full gist of her article, read The Best 7 Reasons to Visit Moab.
Visit Moab and See One of the Most Beautiful Places on Earth
The late western writer and environmentalist Edward Abbey once wrote, “This is the most beautiful place on earth." The place he referred to was the red rock desert near Moab, the “red dust and the burnt cliffs and the lonely sky – all that which lies beyond the ends of the roads.”
